VIDEO: Handcrafted Butterfly Joint

With razor sharp Japanese Chisels, each butterfly joint is precisely carved and then inserted into place.  This process both ensures that cracks in wood slabs do not separate, and also that two wood slabs may be joined together with greater strength.  It dates back centuries to when woodworkers didn't have the sophistication or time to dry freshly milled lumber, and instead used this joint to prevent cracking as the wood dried.
