A Tree Reborn - Finishing Process Video

The finish that I use on all of my pieces is the result of years of extensive research and trial and error.  it provides the most wonderful tactile experience, a velvety smooth surface that maintains the texture of the wood grain, while offering a high degree of protection.  The Oil in the finish penetrates and brings out the natural beauty in the wood while the hard wax hardens as a thing layer on top, proving stain and moisture protection.

In this video, you will see the meticulous application of the hand rubbed finish.  There has been countless hours of work to prepare for this moment, and it is one of the most exciting times in the creation of a new piece.  The wood is extremely dry at this point; having been losing moisture over a minimum period of four years in the air drying and kiln drying process which stabilizes the slab.  As the finish hits the polished wood surface it penetrates deep into the pores, allowing it to be reborn. The laborious hand buffing process ensures that an even sheen across the often massive surfaces so as to not detract from the beauty of the variations in the grain.  Thank you for watching!
